Chateau Hautes Rouzes Pomerol
PITCH Meticulous care goes into the small volumes produced by this family-run estate, which is managed more like a garden. Made predominantly with Merlot and aged in oak for 18 months, the wine displays the seductively silky and velvety extract characteristic of this exceptional appellation.
BACKGROUND Situated in the village of Pomerol, with most of the vines planted on the slope of Roues, Château Hautes Rouzes has been a family property since 1897. It came to Danielle Carles by inheritance in 1994.
SURFACE 3 ha
AVERAGE AGE OF VINES 25 years
GRAPE VARIETIES 75% Merlot Noir, 25% Cabernet Franc
TERROIR Sandy or clay gravel soils over a subsoil of crasse de fer – clay with high iron oxide content – yield pleasant wines with a fruity bouquet and strong ageing potential.
TASTING NOTES A beautiful, dense crimson. Powerful nose of black berried fruits and prunes, also with fine vanilla and toasty aromas. The palate is full-bodied, chewy and beautifully complex. Ripe tannins impart length and structure, which is underpinned by creamy extract. A wine typical of this prestigious appellation.
