Domaine Bel Air Grande Reserve AOC Cotes du Vivarais
The Côtes du Vivarais AOC has been created in 1999. It is a rather small area that does not exceed 700 hectares. The soils are predominantly calcareous. Around 30 000 hl are produced yearly, mainly red wines and also some rosés (26%) and whites ( 4%).
Georges VILLE is certainly one of the most precise and scrupulous vinegrower in the region. His vines are an example of what should be done in more celebrated AOCs : everything is done to reduce the yield : grass is planted between the rows, de-budding is done every year and Mr Ville thins out the leaves regularly in case of risk of rot. As a consequence, very few chemicals are used, the vines protect themselves naturally.
The vines (60% syrah, 30% old grenache and 10% cinsault) cover 9 hectares on a terroir covered with white stones.
